How to Effectively Communicate with Your NDIS Plan Manager

Communication is so important when it comes to the NDIS. It’s important you communicate with your Local Area Coordinator, Early Childhood Partner, and Support Coordinator and the same goes if you have a Plan Manager helping manage your NDIS funds. Your Plan Manager plays a crucial role in helping you achieve your NDIS goals and live the life you want, so it's important to have open and effective communication with them.

What does effective communication with your Plan Manager look like, and how can you make sure it happens? Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your relationship with your Plan Manager.

Be clear about what you need.

Your Plan Manager is there to support you, but they can't do that if they don't know what you need. Make sure to clearly communicate how you would like your Plan Manager to communicate with you. Are there certain times of the day you are better contacted? are there better ways of communication you prefer? Perhaps email is better than speaking over the phone? These details will help your Plan Manager to best support you and ensure that the channel of communication is right for you, after all, we are all different!

Keep your Plan Manager informed.

Your Plan Manager is responsible for managing your NDIS funds and making sure that you are kept informed on how your NDIS budget is being spent. But they can't do that if you don't keep them up-to-date on what you're doing. Make sure to regularly update your Plan Manager on any changes in your circumstances, such as a change of your providers or a change in your contact details. This will help your Plan Manager stay on top of things and make sure your funding is being spent as you wish.

Be open.

Your Plan Manager is there to help you, and they may have valuable insights and suggestions based on their experience and expertise. Be sure to reach out to your Plan Manager with any funding questions. This could help you better utilise your NDIS plan and make sure that you are achieving your goals. Use their knowledge to your advantage.

Ask questions and clarify things.

If you're not sure about something or have any concerns, don't be afraid to ask your Plan Manager for clarification. They are there to help you, and they will be happy to answer your questions and address any concerns you may have.

Effective communication with your NDIS Plan Manager is essential for you to build towards and achieve your goals. By following these tips, you can ensure that you have open and productive communication with your Plan Manager and get the support you need to live the life you want.
