Robert's Holiday

Participant Stories

Like many of us, Rob hadn’t had a holiday for a couple of years particularly due to COVID restrictions but to add to his challenge, he needed to find the right Support Workers to assist him. Here’s how Rob’s support, managed through Pathways to Care, got him on his way to Queensland.

Rob has high support needs and so needs the assistance of two support workers while on holiday. Our Support Coordinator, Marita, assisted Rob’s sister Roseanne, who is also his nominee, with budgeting for this support.

Marita also advised on short-term accommodation rules and funding limits and offered advice as to what can be claimed. At times this can be quite technical so with Marita’s in-depth NDIS knowledge, Roseanne had a clear idea of what could and couldn’t be done.

The Pathways to Care Plan Management team played a role as well, consulting with Marita the Support Coordinator, around invoicing for accommodation and budgets.

One of Rob’s NDIS goals was for increased social interaction and to build independence. With everyone’s support, the holiday came together really well and enabled Rob to work on building these skills and get closer to achieving this goal.

Up, up and away

Robert’s holiday was full of excitement each day with trips to Movie World, Dream World, White Water World, Wet N Wild, Harbour Town and all of the characters and animals he met along the way.

Robert was happy and stayed engaged throughout his time in Queensland as every day was jam-packed and full of fun. Robert enjoyed meeting Scoobie Doo and other characters during the days and loved watching the parade with all of the Looney Tunes and all of the Stars at Movie World.

Robert enjoyed going on rides and water slides and swimming during the visits to the Theme Parks QLD has to offer. Robert loved posing with all of the attractions, including a Hulk made from Lego. Robert also enjoyed meeting and holding a Koala named Pete. The days on the Gold Coast were great, keeping Robert busy and engaged each day and occupied in ride wait times by talking about the rides and what we planned on doing next. The afternoon and dinner time were spent at the cabin in a Gold Coast Holiday park, so Robert had his own room and privacy.

A great holiday for Robert. Ending with a big thumbs up!'
